Dr Pam Sisn

Wednesday, May 5 at Signal Hill Chiropractic Center, we had Dr. Pam Sisney talk about treatment and prevention of several common injuries related to the foot, ankle and lower limb that can occur when beginning or altering your activity level.

Many repetitive strain injuries that affect the whole body start with the feet and their care is extremely important.

The biggest emphasis for early intervention for all injuries she discussed was look to the shoes.

Proper shoes, often new shoes, can make the greatest initial difference and with trying to brace and control the arches in the foot with either a prefabricated or custom made orthotics, start with new shoes properly fit.

Dr Sisney explained several injuries there cause, there treatment and there management. Her lengthy background in athletics helps her clearly understand how these injuries develop and how to prevent and or manage early signs of problems before they become severe and require more invasive treatment. Some of the injuries discussed were: shin splints, tendonitis, sesamioditis, plantar fascitis, apophysitis, bunions, stress fractures of the foot, metatarsalgia and turf toe.

Dr. Sisney mentioned that we all typically have pain in the foot, ankle and leg when we begin exercising it’s when the symptoms are not resolving its important to evaluate to determine the cause. Look to the shoes first and never go barefoot.

Thank you Dr. Sisney!
